Our Story

Welcome to Spartan Delicacies!

We are the sisters Kelly and Maria Christakakou, and we would love to share a little bit about our story and how the idea of creating our family business was born.

Our childhood was in Glicovrisi, a little village in Sparta, Greece, and involved a loving family and tons of respect for people and nature. We spent our spring breaks surrounded by bright orange trees, olive trees, and lemon tree essences and our summers swimming with friends and gathering afterward to eat and talk around a big table in our garden, hearing the melody of cicadas!

Kelly became a land surveyor, and Maria became a chemist. Kelly's love and appreciation for nature and plants lead her back to Sparta, and she put all her efforts into growing the family business of citrus (link to http://www.christakakos-packing.gr). Maria, after graduating, moved abroad and, after living for 13 years in Austria, now resides in Belgium.. Living abroad madeh apparent to her that finding high-quality and authentic taste in commercial agricultural products is not trivial, and she felt determined to fill that gap in the market.

Kelly and Maria envisioned bringing their friends and family together at one table where they would share their love for food, the taste of Greece, the Mediterranean diet, greek nature, and authenticity, proudly introducing us to Spartan Delicacies. Through food we would like to travel you to the carefree Greek summer every time you cook even on the cloudiest days of winter!

Our suppliers are small-scale farmers; we buy their products at a fair price that is higher than the world market price and, in this way, support them to prioritize quality over quantity and help them continue to cultivate the land with love and care and not having to sell their products to big companies with whom they don’t have bargaining power.

Our products are in line with the highest quality standards, and our packaging is carefully chosen and sustainable to meet the needs of the modern and demanding consumer.

We advocate that knowledge is power, and that's why we will organize regular olive oil tastings to give you the tools to recognize the taste of high-quality olive oil and learn to pair it with food, as nowadays many consumers are unable to distinguish quality differences and gravitate toward less costly extra virgin olive oils.

We also dream of bringing you to our small village, guiding you through the process of olive picking and milling, and tasting alltogether the local dishes! A dream to become true soon :-) We'll keep you posted! After all, every day we have is precious, and we need to make the most of it by doing what we love and eating quality food
